Simeon A. "Alex" Box scrapbook, 1942-1944.

This scrapbook, compiled by Mrs. Earle Hubert Wagley, concerns Simeon A. "Alex" Box, an LSU alumnus and World War II soldier, whom Mrs. Wagley (then Hubert) was seeing at the time of his death. The three main topics covered within the scrapbook are Box's death in Algeria, his military decorations, and the subsequent naming of places in his honor after he was killed in combat. The majority of items are newspaper clippings and letters written to Mrs. Wagley following Box's death.

Simeon A. "Alex" Box was born in Quitman, Mississippi, in 1920 and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1942, where he played both baseball and football. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Distinguished Service Cross for his service with an Engineer Regiment in Algeria.
